This is going to be my last formal post before I go back to China, hopefully in China, the internet won't be too slow, so I can upload some pictures quickly, and have enough time to write about interesting events.
As for today's post..
Growing up is inevitable. We can't help it, we can't change it, and most importantly, we can't slow it down. Growing up can make a person happy, but it can also make a person sad. That goes without saying, and I'm sure I'm just saying everything you already know.
I don't care if you know or not, because this is my opinion.
Thinking about growing up, I feel excited, and want to do the things that a grown-up wants to do. But, I know in my heart I don't want to grow up. I don't want to face the responsibility. I'll be old quick, and all my friends will drift apart... We can help slow the drifting down, but you all know we won't be spending as much time together. Highschool is going to be over fast, and when that time comes, we can only look back at our times together as we are about to head off to different schools, cities, or even countries.
I asked many grade 12 students what their opinion about graduating is, everyone of them had the same response: "Bittersweet."
What a clichéd statement, but thinking about it, what's a better word to describe it? Our youthfulness is about to end. Observing my parents as they grow older, I start to realize, what will happen to us? Our memories starting to fail us, our physical abilities becomes limited, and we sleep earlier. Everyday is the same: wake up, eat, work, eat, work, go home, rest, sleep. Those of us with a cubicle job will feel even more confined, but what about the people doing physical labour.
Working at Bulk Barn really made me look at the world, looking at the people working there, I cannot help but feel sorry for them. What a sad life to lead. Earning just a bit above minimum wage. If you're the manager, you're better off compared to the workers, but even if you are a manager, you're still not making a lot. The better question is, is that my future job?
A job is not the most important thing, it's your family, but how is your family relationship going to be? When are you going to start having a family? Are you going to have a family? These are some of the things to consider.
What about retirement?
Why worry about this when we haven't even attended University yet? University is the most important step right?
Most of you probably think you have it all planned out... Sorry to say this.. but you don't. How can you have a plan when you don't know your future? Time is passing by more and more quickly, so when we are in our 30 somethings we can only acknowledge the fact that we are entering mid-life.. If time is going to go by quicker and quicker, will it eventually just be a blur? Imagine that.. living a blur..
We are entering the stage of our life where we have to look at life in the big picture. Our life. We are growing up my friends.. we are bound to change.. let's just hope that change can bring us closer in the future..

Blah, rubbing in that you're actually doing something this summer... again...
To tell you the truth, graduating is just another step towards responsibility and then eventually death. Growing up is something that happens to everyone, except to Peter Pan. The term varies depending on the person describing it. Some describe it as turning 18 while others say growing up is when you "pass" potty training. Anyways, the Bulk Barn paragraph is well depicted in the movie "Waiting..." except with a lot more swearing.
Most people that plan out their lives eventually end up doing something else. When I was younger, I wanted to become super rich, now I realize that it was just a childhood dream and that it'll be likely that it won't happen. However, when people stick to their "life plans", they usually end up in a totally opposite place. Rather than mapping out your entire life before you turn 18, it's better to just live life and "go with the flow".
ps. what happened to vid dumps?!?!?!?!?!
I wanna go to China!
Ahem. Imho, i think that you have it wrong. I mean, the way I see it, people are supposed to mature with the times. As in, if you're ready for something, you're ready for it. Well, that's the way I work.
About the friends, that's really what's supposed to happen. Do you, of all people, honestly expect that you'll stick around with the same group of people all your life? When your friends decide to go, you won't really miss them, much.
As for everything else, You're absolutely right. We, as human beings, have absolutely no cognition of our futures, no clue about anything, but then again, some of us can know the here and now about ourselves, and sometimes we know just enough to get us through everyday life.
I guess the real question to ask is this: Do you want to grow up being a nothing?
Remember when I would ask gr 12s if they were dying or not? now do you see what i mean? i never ever want to grow up. I always want to be young and carefree and...i want to go to neverland and live with peter pan and have adventures fighting pirates and dancing with fairies. why do we have to grow up? why must we move on to one man, one home, one future? why cant we go on living adventures? Is it because....well...growing up is the real adventre. Its what we have to do in order to move on to the next adventure. But its just we can't go back to a save point, or press restart before the timer goes to zero, its always ahead, and the path behind us is simply a chain of memories. Make sure you keep these memories dear. Please don't forget us.
all my loves.
Like BQ here, I think it's pretty pointless to worry about these things. I mean, I was worrying about how I was gonna save up money for RESP and all that and got really stressed out a few days ago. And that's no good, so I'm just going to relax and let everything take care of itself. We don't really have that much control over stuff anyways, so I don't think we should spend anymore time worrying about this stuff than we have to.
karl. wtf. RESP????????that's ur PARENTS" job... OMG.....
well yushie~ just in case I haven't made it clear in ur yearbook last year w/ my mini-essay. i want to be friends w/ u forever =) u'll probably go: ya ya, so not going to happen. But i think, if u make a genuine effort, the impossible can really become the possible. Plus, it's not like I'm asking to take a trip to Mars in 2 hours. I'm only asking you to be my friend. I mean how hard can that be? As for growing up. My opinion is: Don't wanna but can't help it. There's no way to plan the future completely because as the chinese proverb goes, ppl planning cannot win over heaven's plans. So I think you can have a general plan of where you want to be in the future, but you cannot lay out every single step of your life, because I mean, doors open and close at different stages and times of a person's life. The best you can do is go with the flow and try to obtain what you desired for the future. I guess I also think if there are friends you want to keep, you'll be able to keep them if you work hard enough and always leave a place in ur heart for them. i.e. think about them often =)
p.s. if i said this to my parents, they'd go: y r u worrying about nothing? u have all this time thinking about random crap, y don't u do math or sumthing =.=;;
Well said Kelly.
